FULL OUTLINE:

Saturday:
10.00am - 11.00am

A Short But Detailed History of Burlesque! Learn about the amazing legacy
you inherit as a burlesque performer and the creative, strong and
wonderful women who have paved the yellow brick road on which you are
embarking. We run through the history of the word 'burlesque', the
genderbending amazons of Victorian Burlesque (and the birth of the pin-up
by burlesque performers), the early 20th Century Carnival and Medicine
Show influences, the Golden Age of the 30s to the 50s and finally the
pioneer post-feminist women who picked up their feather fans all over
again in the mid to late 90s and founded a theatre movement like no other!

We will also teach you the old terminology - so if we ask you to give us
"The Boston Version", you'll know just what you need to do!

11.00am -11.30am
Break - You'll need it because Lola is about to get you
moving! And her classes have a reputation for high physicality and
demanding warmups!

11.30-1.30

Lola will teach you the four corners of classic burlesque that every
self-respecting dancer should know: The Bump, The Grind, The Shimmy and
the Burlesque Walk. From there, we will cover classic moves of burlesque
past and present, each named in tribute to the performer who "owned" the
move, or who taught it to Lola personally! It's our way of thanking the
dancers who have given us so much, and keeping their memory alive in our
bodies and hearts. There is also room for improvisation - your routines
will rely solely on your creativity so we want to start bringing it out
here and now! be prepared to dance to your own rhythm!

1.30 - 2.30 Lunch

2.30 - 3.30
We will show you the standard sexy strip routine of the Golden Age, and
how it was integrated with the costume of the time. (Book: Pretty Things
would be helpful to have around here). Chair and veil work is
incorporated.

3.30 - 5.00
Lola combines the moves you have learnt and layers them onto each other in
the most challenging routine she teaches. This is what you need to pull
out to match the spectacle of your amazing costume. If you can't have a
large prop, you need to have a spectacular physical routine. Featuring the
infamous Undulation Kick, and Lola's secret weapon, The Hummingbird!

Sunday:
10.00 - 10.30

A dance warm up with Parasols and Boas - learn some cool sexy tricks -
what a great way to start the day!

10.30 - 11.30:
Show Us Your Bits! This is the time for you to show Jac and Lola your
routines and have them workshopped in a supportive and honest professional
group setting.

11.30 - 12.00 Break

12.00 - 2.00

Workshopping continues. You will also have the advantage of seeing the
other student's acts workshopped, and pick up more than a few tips by proxy!

2.00 - 3.00
Lunch

3.00 - 4.00
Workshopping continues. Walk away with an act!

4.00 - 5.00
Q & A: Your time to ask Jac and Lola about the Biz. How to get started?
How to export? Tease-o-rama/Miss Exotic World applications? How to present
and promote yourself? What do I need to 'sell' my act and build an
audience, contacts and a 'reputation'!
